The passion for Arsenal arrives up to Grimbsy city in England. Dan Sherriff, a young man who is 17 and is a West Bromwich fan, felt in love with the Light Blue and Red due to a videogame and improved that love after the promotion to First Division in 2019. This Arse fan watches all the games and he do not take care about the different time zones. Also, he created a Twitter account (@ArsenalSarandiEN) in order to show how much he appreciate the club of Sarandí.
He knows the entire squad, from his point of view, Mateo Carabajal is the key player, and he sings the songs after finding them on Spotify. «´Quiere salir campeón´ and ´Pideme la luna´ are my favourites» says this guy. Weird! But not toom much. The Argentine Football have such kind of frenzy that make an English boy an Arsenal fan… but from the Argentiean one. Here is Dan´s story and his flashy love to the «Huevo» Rondina´s team.
Vermouth Deportivo: How did your story with Arsenal begin?
Dan Sherriff :Well, around 4 years ago I was playing the Fifa video game. I saw Arsenal on the game and thought they looked a cool team so I played with them. I forgot about them for 2 years until they got promoted and after that, I started watching all the games and eventually set up a Twitter account to show my support.
VD: How did you find out that it was promoted?
DS: I used an app called ‘Flashscores’ which covers football leagues around the world and I saw the result on there. Unfortunately at the time, there was not a way to watch the match. Argentinian football is not really talked about over here, but I got one of my friends to start supporting El Arse too!
VD: What caught your attention about Arsenal? What have you learned from the team so far?
DS: I have seen that all the players seem very passionate about the club, which is not like many clubs in Europe. And the fans too are much more passionate than English fans.
VD: Have you ever traveled to see the club?
DS: I have never travelled to Argentina. When I am older, maybe 5-10 years, I would love to come and watch a few matches.
VD: How did you come up with a twitter account and follow Arsenal games?
DS: I searched for fellow English El Arse fans and could not find any, so I thought the best way to show people that there are fans of the club from England would be make a social media account. I only gained around 70 followers before one of my posts went viral which then got me fully known to Arsenal fans.
VD: Do you watch all Arsenal games? Do you have a ritual to observe the games?
DS: Since the start of March 2020, I have not missed a game. Some of the kick offs times do make me very tired! I don’t have any rituals, I just sit down with a bottle of water and watch the game on my tv.
VD: How much work does each transmission take you?
DS: Not much, I only do coverage on Twitter. I am very happy with the impact, to gain 800 followers in the space of one week, after the viral tweet, really did surprise me and I am grateful for every follower I have.
VD: Do you like the team? Do you have a favorite protagonist?
DS:Currently I love the team, but when we had a very bad run where we lost 5-0 to Estudiantes and 3-0 to Aldosivi, I wanted Huevo Rondina to leave but he has changed our fortunes and he is doing an amazing job. My favourite player is Mateo Carabajal, he’s a great leader and solid defender.
VD: Do You know the «Huevo» Rondina history?
DS: I know a small amount about him, I know he used to play for El Arse many years ago. He also managed Villa Dalmine where he was a success. I love him, he is very active on the touch line which is something I like in a manager. He wears some great outfits. Very colourful!
VD: How did you experience qualifying for the eighth final of the «Copa Sudamericana»? Did you celebrate it?
DS: I was very excited to see that we would progress. I celebrated a lot and also played some El Arse Songs from Spotify. It was a great match and all the players deserve it.
VD: Which songs?
DS: «´Quiere Salir Campeon´ and ´Pídeme La Luna´ are my favourites.
VD: And do You know all the song? Do You sing this songs?
DS: Not yet, I have started to learn some of the words but can only sing the main parts.
VD: Do you have any shirt of Arsenal?
DS: I haven’t contacted anyone at the club. I have 2 shirts but they are concept so they are not official. There are no places over here where they sell official Arsenal shirts.
VD: Would you be interested in becoming a member of the club?
DS: Yes, that could be good.
VD: Until what time have you stayed to watch an Arsenal game?
DS: The latest time I have stayed up to watch Arsenal was the Ceará game which was 1:30am. I was very tired!
