´Our Boys´ demonstrated in the latest competitions that are up to the best selections in the world. In the Euro 2016 played in France, the Nordic team drew with Portugal and defeated England in the round of 16, while in qualifying for Russia 2018 they finished first in their group. Sverrir Ingi Ingason, player of Rostov and of the Icelandic national team, talked with Vermouth Deportivo about his rivals. The defender spoke of Argentina, Croatia and the dream of playing the World Cup in a unique and exlcusive interview.
Vermouth Deportivo: A great Euro 2016, and the best road to Russia 2018. How does Iceland National Team is living this wonderful moment?
Sverrir Ingi Ingason: Of course to be a part of this team is incredible. We have showed both on the Euro and in the qualifying games that we are able to the beat the best teams.
VD: The first official match in a World Cup for Iceland is against Argentina. What do you think about that team?
SII: I think this will be the first meeting between this team so that is always special. We know that Argentina is one of the best teams in the world. They went to the finals on last World Cup in Brazil. They have players playing in the best teams around the world. This will be a great game.
VD: Did you dream at least once to play a World Cup and also to play against Messi in the first match?
SII: I think every football player dreams to play at the World Cup its the biggest stage. I think it will be extra special for us to have achieved that because we are very small country. And to be able to play against the best players in the world, like Messi, will be big experience for us.
VD: Again Croatia as in the qualifiers to Russia 2018. You lost the first match, you won the second but the most important will be at group E. What´s your opinion about that team and that match?
SII: We know the Croatia team well. We have now played them 4 times in last 4 years. They are a very strong side with a lot of quality players, so it will be a very hard game.
VD: Last question, and our best wishes for the World Cup. If you can see the future, how will Iceland end the match against Argentina?
SII: We will have to wait for June 16th
